Welcome to the Charlotte, NC metropolitan section of the Society of Women Engineers. Our members come from the city of Charlotte and the surrounding areas, including part of South Carolina. The Society of Women Engineers (SWE), founded in 1950, is a not-for-profit educational and service organization. SWE is the driving force that establishes engineering as a highly desirable career aspiration for women. SWE empowers women to succeed and advance in those aspirations and be recognized for their life-changing contributions and achievements as engineers and leaders. The SWE-CM Vision: The Society of Women Engineers Charlotte-Metrolina Section strives to be a viable support network for female engineers in the Charlotte-Metrolina area, to be visible in our community through outreach activities and corporate relations, and to be a building block for SWE's Southeast Region. |

Angela Berry receives the 2009 Distinguished Engineering Service Award from Section President Chris Cathcart. Angela's service is long standing and covers many aspects of SWE and the Engineering Community. She has organized the Girl Scout event for several years while making it look easier each year. She is the SWE Counselor for the UNCC Collegiate Section and has helped this Collegiate Section weather the down turn in membership so common to Collegiate Section at smaller schools. Angela has also worked to gain a partnership with SWE and several other organizations including PENC and WTS. Through her work with these organizations, she has helped other members secure employment, mentoring, and career advice. Her continued support of the Charlotte SWE Section has enabled growth and continued work in the area of professional development and outreach. |
Sandra Kolvick receives the 2009 Service to SWE Award from Section President Chris Cathcart. Sandra's service includes serving as an officer for the Section immediately upon joining the group. She has organized several events including the Girl Scout event at Carowinds, the Education Days at Carowinds, and several other events through the years. Her willingness to serve as an officer has allowed the Section to continue and even grow. She has accepted the responsibility of the office and gone well beyond the call of duty for the work she is assigned for SWE. Sandra's life takes her to many faraway places but her commitment to SWE has not faltered or waivered. |

We congratulate Angela and Sandra for their accomplishments and wish them continued success with their endeavors in the future. They were recognized at the Charlotte-Metrolina Section Awards & Recognition Banquet on June 27, 2009. |
