National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) is a 501(C)(3) non-profit association that is owned and managed by its members. The organization is dedicated to the academic and professional success of African-American engineering students and professionals. NSBE offers its members leadership training, professional development, mentoring opportunities, career placement services and more! National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) The National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) is the recognized voice and advocate of licensed Professional Engineers. Founded in 1934, NSPE strengthens the engineering profession by promoting engineering licensure and ethics, enhancing the engineer image, advocating and protecting PEs' legal rights at the national and state levels, publishing news of the profession, providing continuing education opportunities, and much more. Professional Engineers of North Carolina (PENC) Professional Engineers of North Carolina (PENC) is a professional association of over 1800 individuals including Professional Engineers, engineering interns, engineering graduates, and engineering students in nine local chapters and five university engineering programs. PENC is a state society of the National Society of Professional Engineers. Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) was founded in Los Angeles, California, in 1974 by a group of engineers employed by the city of Los Angeles. Their objective was to form a national organization of professional engineers to serve as role models in the Hispanic community. Engineers Week Foundation The National Engineers Week Foundation, a formal coalition of more than 75 professional societies, major corporations and government agencies, is dedicated to ensuring a diverse and well-educated future engineering workforce by increasing understanding of and interest in engineering and technology careers among young students and by promoting pre-college literacy in math and science. Engineers Week also raises public understanding and appreciation of engineers' contributions to society. Founded in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers, it is among the oldest of America's professional outreach efforts. Girl Scouts, Hornets' Nest Council Girl Scouts, Hornets' Nest Council received its first charter from Girl Scouts of the USA in 1935. Today, the council serves more than 14,000 girls with almost 5,000 volunteers in eight counties in North and South Carolina: Anson, Cabarrus, Mecklenburg, Montgomery, Rowan, Stanly, Union and York (SC).
